Russia’s decision to partially withdraw troops from Syria was made in coordination with Damascus, the Permanent Representative of Syria to the UN Bashar Jaafari told reporters in Geneva, Wednesday. Commenting on recent claims by Kurdish officials affiliated with the PYD (Kurdish Democratic Union Party) located in the north of Syria, that a federalist system of self-administration could soon be launched in the region, Jaafari stated that “the basic references for the indirect talks, the Syrian-Syrian indirect talks, prohibits raising such scenarios. What we are talking about here is how to keep the unity of Syria, the independence of Syria, the territorial integrity of Syria.”
