– “إن الصفحة الأولى من عمليات تحرير الرقة قد بدأت. وسوف تنفذ هذه العمليات على مراحل، وبالتشاور عن كثب مع شركاءنا على الأرض، قوات سوريا الديمقراطية، وكذلك مع حلفاءنا في المنطقة، وبالأخص #تركيا. وإن رئيس هيئة أركاننا المشتركة الجنرال دانفورد موجود في #أنقرة للحديث مع نظراءه الأتراك حول المراحل اللاحقة من هذه الحملة.”
– سنسلط ضغطاً مستمراً ومتزامناً على مناطق تواجد داعش في #العراق و #سوريا – هذا الأمر يجري حالياً وسوف تتسارع وتيرته خلال الأسابيع القادمة.
– إن أولويتنا الأساسية خلال هذه الحملة هي أن تكون طليعة القوة التي تحرر الأراضي الرئيسية من داعش هي قوات محلية.
– أي أننا نريد قوة تقوم في نهاية المطاف بتحرير الرقة وتتألف بصورة رئيسية من سكان المنطقة المحلية – عرب من المنطقة. لذلك قمنا بتدريب العديد من هؤلاء المقاتلين، وأعداد هذه القوة ستزداد فيما نصل الى المراحل التالية من الحملة.”
Highlights from SPE Brett McGurk’s Press Conference on the start of the initial phase of Raqqa Campaign, November 6, 2011:
The initial phase of operations to liberate #Raqqa have begun. This will happen in phases. It’ll happen in very close consultations with our partners on the ground, Syrian Democratic Forces, and also with our allies in the region, particularly Turkey. And our Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dunford is in Ankara today talking with his Turkish counterparts about the subsequent phases of the Raqqa campaign.
We will be applying constant, simultaneous, synchronized pressure against Daesh in #Iraq and #Syria – this is ongoing now and will accelerate over the coming weeks.
It is our principal priority throughout this campaign that the vanguard of the force that takes major territory from Daesh should be locally-based forces.
We want a force that ultimately liberates Raqqa that is primarily from the local area – Arabs from the area. And so we have trained many of these fighters and that force will continue to grow as we get to the subsequent phases of the campaign
